Solent Weather
The rewards of winter sailing. We had one very cold day, one wet day, a couple of windy days (29 knots) and overall a great time. Even more valuable for the crew seeing the weather change so quickly. They couldn’t believe how we could sail in 29 knots and also how different it felt if we were ‘up wind’ or ‘down wind’. Very valuable few days.
The boat had effective heating and if we were cold or wet we soon warmed up and dried out so it just felt a great experience. Loads of space to practice ‘parking’ in marinas, no waiting for showers and several night hours of sailing before dinner. With only 3 of us on board we had lots of space and comfort too.
Of course we felt alone much of the time – often no other yachts in sight – I wonder why?……
The pictures are within a minute of each other with a view in one direction and then the opposite. Really demonstrates how quickly the weather changes. After that it was too windy for photos!
We had 3 reefs in and were about to shake them out BUT – they say ‘if you are thinking of shaking a reef out, wait another 10 minutes at least’. Fortunately we did as the wind picked up rather than died down. 3 reefs were needed.
