How a Corporate or Team Building/Reward Sailing Day works

We meet either in the marina bar for coffee (and perhaps breakfast) or on the boat. A short walk to the boats for safety briefing.

The skippers invite guests to start steering the yacht as soon as we are out of the berth. Everyone can get involved around the yacht steering and getting the sails up (if they want to) or they can simply sit and observe/enjoy the atmosphere. We generally sail the yachts around central Solent from Hamble or the very picturesque and quieter western end of the Solent from Lymington. Depending on where we start we may sail as far as Hurst Castle or The Needles or we may stay around Lymington/Yarmouth/Central Solent to Cowes.

We usually go ashore for lunch in the International Yachting Centre of Cowes https://www.cowes.co.uk/ or in the quaint Yarmouth Harbour – both on the Isle of Wight. There are also several bays where we can anchor for lunch.

If there are two yachts or more there is inevitably some form of yacht race – however informal and that always ‘gets the banter going’. The aim is to return to home marina by 16.30 or 17.00 and each marina has a bar to enjoy a drink and talk about their Solent Cruise.

Lifejackets (which are comfortable) are provided and ‘wet weather gear’ is usually included if needed.

How a Team Building or Team Reward Day(s) work

Similar to a corporate day – meeting in the marina bar or on board for coffee (and breakfast) and safety briefing.

If there are 2 or more boats, some racing is usually involved. Sandwich lunches can be eaten on board or you can go ashore for lunch in a sailing club or bar. There are different roles (including steering) and people can rotate positions. Even in racing people don’t have to be physically involved but people gradually do get more involved.

Normal comfortable clothes with different optional layers.  Wet weather gear is provided if needed.  Soft soled non marking shoes.  

Corporate Hospitality

A very different type of client hospitality. You are with your clients all day either chatting or taking part in the sailing activities. It feels exclusive as you are in the privacy of your own yacht and people can’t get off until you are arrive in the marina! A brilliant way to get to know your clients better.

Team building works with one boat or more. Companies of all sizes hold mini regattas (yacht racing) and team building days. Sailing events vary in size from 5 to 150 people. Yacht racing is exciting and a brilliant motivating team exercise. It involves leadership, communication, everyone knowing their role and how it impacts on others and every role counts. It is both challenging and fun and there is plenty of adrenalin. That also means plenty of post event fun. Find out more
