Why Try Sailing?
Why sailing is such a great day or weekend for a corporate or personal activity
The magic
There’s something magical about being on the water being propelled by the wind – It’s a precious moment when we switch the engine off. The Solent, South Coast and Isle of Wight provides great views and a beautiful setting. It is a perfect change to the hectic pace in normal life and so will be remembered all the more by clients, colleagues and friends.
Plenty of activity
There is plenty of activity to get involved with if you want – steering, hoisting the sales, tacking etc. Sailing is participative and there’s always something todo but if that’s not your thing you don’t have to. Sailing is unique in that you are part of the action even if you want to just observe! So unlike many sports or events.
Learn a new skill
You can learn a new skill if you want – as skippers, we ‘teach’ as much or as little as is wanted or needed. We love helping people to learn and be an involved as much as they want. We recognise when people are happy to sit back and observe. Skippers also keep you safe.
Together on a boat
For those people who are not taking an active part in the sailing they are still very much ‘in the activity’ and part of the group – you are all together on a boat so you do not miss any of the action or conversation. This is unique to sailing.
Feel extremely satisfied
I understand many people are nervous and simply don’t know what to expect and I do my best to help them – most people soon love it and feel extremely satisfied with what they achieve – even the people who are most nervous about getting on a boat.
Keep you safe
You do not have to be able to sail – a professional skipper will show you what is involved and work with you to get the best out of the day. The skipper will also keep you safe.
Work with the elements
We have to work with the elements – weather and tides and we adapt to make the best of these. The Solent seems to have its own microclimate – the Isle of Wight does appear to have better weather than the mainland but no one can guarantee the weather.
Informal Racing
For those wanting even more excitement and are in a group of yachts, there can be some informal racing. One boat is sailing, two is racing!
In a nutshell
Its great ‘team’ building as sailing requires people to work together and coordinate action
There are different roles so you can choose and swap around
You are part of a team whether you are actively involved or not
It’s a great balance between action and socialising
You have plenty of time to chat and catch up with friends or family
There is always something going on so you really get a break from the stresses of ‘normal life
It’s a memorable event and you can take loads of pictures.
You have the thrill of starting very nervous and end up loving the thrill!
Its open to a wide range of ages although for yachts we use some mobility is needed
