Hoegh Osaka Cargo Ship on Bramble Bank
By complete coincidence I was discussing stability with ‘competent crew’ at 21.30 on Saturday evening in Haslar just as Hoegh Osaka landed on Bramble Bank. We were going to do a night sail but after a stormy day we decided to have a quiet night in a marina. Otherwise would we have been there and actually seen this happen?
We sailed by her on Sunday – such and incredible and sad sight – like a beached whale. Facts to be revealed yet so can’t speculate but it must have been a very tough time for all concerned. Fortunately it appears no serious injuries.
The Solent is certainly a special place where big ships like this and small sailing yachts operate close together. These ships are a regular sight and they never cease to impress me.
Quite incredible the Hoegh Osaka has now re-floated herself. Wish I was there to see that too.
