‘If you can sail on the Solent you can sail anywhere’
Learning to sail on the Solent is an ideal place to learn. It has so many challenges and so much variety to test your navigation and sailing skills. Many bays and creeks that require good tidal knowledge. Then there are major ports like Portsmouth (the Kings Harbour!) and Southampton with all its large cargo ships and car carriers and fast ferries.
As a qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, I teach a range of RYA courses including Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Preparation through various RYA Sailing Schools in the Solent. I can connect you with these schools.
Training doesn’t have to be formal. Sailing is a continual learning process and there are lots of informal options. You learn every time you join a sailing yacht. You could charter a boat with skipper (ie me!) and just get involved and/or practice specific things you are interested in. You might just want to test sailing out to see if it is your thing!
You may have just qualified as Day Skipper and want some assurance on your initial trips out. You may have bought a boat and want help as you familiarise yourself.
Basically, I can help with both formal and informal training.
